LOVE IS A PERSON
Book of 1st Corinthians, chapter 13
Love suffers long and is kind; love does not envy; love does not parade itself, is not puffed up; does not behave rudely, does not seek its own, is not provoked, thinks no evil, does not rejoice in iniquity, but rejoices in the truth; bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things. Love never fails.
This description of Love compels us to seek humility. It tends to reflect that love is out of our reach but in truth, it is not! Love can be displayed and of course it was displayed at the cross. From, he suffers long to, he never fails; not forgetting he thinks no evil, does not rejoice in iniquity or again bears all things; it is clear that love has a name : Jesus.
When I became a man, I put away childish things
Love is the proof and the sign of our maturity. We need to put on love “lenses” in order to switch seeing dimly, to quit childish behaviors. This is the greatest test. The love “test” applied to all our interactions must be the sole and necessary proof of our maturity. The chapter 14 of the book of 1st Corinthians begins with two words : PURSUE LOVE. It is our primary purpose cause it is the best, complete and greatest gift.
Let’s use an illustration. Considering a tree producing fruits, what is the greatest? The tree or the fruits it produces? When given an opportunity to decide, it is more interesting to choose the tree than to choose the fruits. Let me explain. To put it simple, the fruits are the end results of a tree; in other words, we can say its purpose. Jesus curses a fig tree because it did not bear fruits according to its purpose. The trees produce fruits; just in that order, not fruits bearings trees. It is important for us to seek the Lord and for the Lord to be ours before searching His gifts. We can only bear fruits if the tree is planted in us. LOVE IS THE TREE. Gifts are the fruits. We need to first seek the Lord, to be His, for His Love to possess us.
And though I have the gift of prophecy, and understand all mysteries and all knowledge, and though I have all faith, so that I could remove mountains, but have not love, I am nothing.
And now abide faith, hope, love, these three; but the greatest of these is Love.
To love is our unique acceptable lifestyle purpose so that everything we do pass through the Love filter for us to know if it is a love act.
