Of the 8 billion people alive today, more than 3 billion live in unreached people groups, with little or no access to the Gospel of Jesus Christ. The Joshua Project counts about 17,428 people groups in the world; more than 7,400 of them are considered unreached, over 42% of the world’s population.

Together they are known as the THUMB peoples: Tribal, Hindu, Unreligious (including much of the Chinese world), Muslim and Buddhist. Most have little or no Christian history. They are on a road to eternity without ever having heard how to be saved: they were never given the chance to choose Jesus (Romans 10:14).

The 10/40 Window

Where the Gospel is least known

Most of the least-reached people groups live within the 10/40 Window, the band between 10 and 40 degrees north latitude that stretches from North Africa to Southeast Asia.

Senegal, and especially the interior around Kaolack, lies within this window. Yet less than 10% of missionary work worldwide is done among these peoples: for every 30 cross-cultural workers sent to peoples who are already reached, only one goes to the unreached.

The great imbalance

For every dollar of Christian resources, less than one cent is directed toward unreached peoples. In the parable of the lost sheep, the shepherd leaves the ninety-nine to go after the one that is lost. Today, that priority is reversed.

Our calling

God has spoken to our team through several of us, at different times. To me He gave this direction: “from Dakar to Djibouti.” The path runs through the Sahel, one of the least-reached regions of the African continent.

Who I am

Ehonam Hamenou

Born near Lomé, Togo, and based in Strasbourg, France, I serve as an elder and evangelist at Liberté Church, founded Les Pionniers and lead The Cross Love. A graduate of ISOM, of two Christ for all Nations Schools of Evangelism and of EM Strasbourg, I am a member of the CfaN Evangelism Alliance, the Global Evangelist Alliance and OMS. I am married to Stéphanie, and we have a son.
